A fairly traditional local. Staple shaped bar with a room of little distinction off the side. Low and bowed tongue and grooved wood ceiling, assumed to be a 1970s refurb job and overall has a bit of character. Pervading smell of old fags, a burberry style carpet and general lack of natural light didn’t enhance the ambience though. Rear courtyard patio and grassed garden looked decent. Five ales on, probably two too many; Abbott, Belhaven, Stonehenge Great Bustard and two from Twisted Ale. My half of the Twsited Pale was clearly the first out for a fair while but ostensibly fine (NBSS 2). Got a thanks from the locals and barmaid for visiting as I exited, so a point for friendliness that you rarely get in pubs nowadays.

Recently renovated and, I believe with a change of ownership, this 17th Century town inn has a rambling interior with various snugs and bar areas. There is single large main bar, while two function rooms occupy the rear of the building. There is also an open courtyard at the back. The staff were a bit vague, the clientele consisted of a few drunks and some CAMRA types. Three ales on, I had Jennings's Cumberland which was in excellent condition. Worth dropping in for a pint and including in a crawl.

A large detached white rendered coaching inn style pub, with some black paintwork

The interior is open plan, a large U-shape around the bar with a few nooks and crannies. There was a dining area (we didn't eat) a pool table are and a bar area, as well as a sofa/comfy chair with TV area. The decor was white artex and black beams, with a stone fireplace and some exposed brick. There was no real ephemera, or pictures on the walls. The music was rock and at a decent level, the service was fine, but it was a young lad that didnt really know much about the real ales it seemed, but he took them back one at a time when i returned them. The clientele was small, but mixed.

Beer; well, tap stuff, with 5 handpulls; 6X, Flower's Original, London Pride, Ringwood Bitter and Spitfire. I asked for Ringwood, which was foul, so i returned it, to be told the 6X was now not on either. I asked for Flowers, but he turned the clip around as he though that wasn't on. I then had my 4th choice, London Pride, which was, although the favourite of the locals, he said, also not on. I was left with Spitfire - not a drink i would choose, but it was at least not vinegar. I managed half of it and left.

Sorry, but it wasn't a good experience.
