About
We are Stacey and Rebby and we’re so excited to be taking part in Cycle Cuba 2017, not only to visit a stunning country and to tick it off our list, not only to stretch our cycling ability to the max, but to raise vital funds for the groundbreaking research being carried out every day by the Genesis Research Trust. We're cycling more than 360km in just 5 days through Cuba for this amazing charity.

Genesis Research Trust raises money for the largest UK-based collection of scientists and clinicians who are researching the causes and cures for conditions that affect the health of women and babies. This could be a miscarriage, a premature birth, cervical or womb cancers or even a childhood cancer all of which lead to heartbreaking and traumatic times for families across the world.

Stacey’s Story

In 2013, I was beyond devastated to learn at my 12 week scan of my very first pregnancy that my baby had died about a week before and that I would need to undergo surgery. There was no reason for it; no explanation; just ‘one of those things’ I was told and I felt for a long time like my world had ended and that I had failed. Even to this day, and now having two beautiful sons who I adore, I still feel guilty and I still cry at the loss of my first baby. Unfortunately, I know far too many women who have suffered the same tragedy, who have lost a baby in much later stages after premature births and others who are still struggling with fertility issues and desperate to conceive.

This charity is so close to my heart and the work they are doing is just incredible and by taking part in Cycle Cuba 2017 and the funds we’ll raise I hope we can start to find cures and explanations for these life altering events. This is going to be such a tough physical challenge, that goes without saying, but leaving my husband and two young sons for over a week is also going to test me to my limits....but I can’t wait!!

Rebby’s Story

Having not been faced with any of the difficult situations myself (but I may do in the future) I have friends and family who have been forced to go through difficult and testing challenges in their lives; things that Genesis Research Trust is working so hard to understand and to cure and can only do so with people taking part in these events and raising money for the charity.

Taking part in Cycle Cuba 2017 I know will be so incredibly rewarding, fulfilling and such an amazing and worthwhile experience, especially whilst doing something I love and enjoy and to share it all with one of my very best friends is just the icing on the cake!
