About
International award winning photographer Juno Calypso discusses self-portraiture and performance. Focusing on her works Joyce and Honeymoon, she will explain what it means to perform in front of a camera.

Juno Calypso works across photography, film and installation. In Joyce, she performs as a fictional character to exploring the absurdities of female identity. For Honeymoon, her latest series of large-format photographs, Calypso spent a week at a couple’s only resort in Pennsylvania. Using hotel suites as a stage for her alter ego, Calypso continuously performed beauty routines until they became empty gestures. These completely artificial self-portraits invite us to reflect upon modern rituals of seduction and the construction of female sexuality. The series was selected by The British Journal of Photography as the winner of the 2016 International Photography Award.
