The Church, Chester

Formerly St Andrews Reform Church ,this place has undergone a fabulous transformation into a Bar , Resturant and live music venue . The main entrance leads into the downstairs bar , the long modern horseshoe bar is to the rear dominated by the original church organ . There is alcove style seating down both sides with high tables in the centre . A door to the right of the main entrance leads to the large raised outdoor patio area . The mezzanine floor is reached by two staircases either side of the main room , this gives a great view of the pub , well lighted by the many original stained glass windows , there is also a Wine Shop situated on the left of the mezzanine floor . Plenty of keg taps as expected in this type of place and an extensive cocktail list , a cocktail making class was on during our Friday evening visit , and unusually four real ales , Abbey Original , Brains Rev James and the two i tried Coach House Innkeepers and Weetwood Cheshire Cat both in top nick and at £3.50 not to bad a price. Clientelle were a mixed bunch from student types to older more mature types although the heels got higher and the skirts shorter as the evening went on ! Staff were young efficient and friendly although Mrs Oggwyn thought the barmaids tops were a bit on the skimpy side , i never noticed honest . Really enjoyed my visit here
