The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green, N13

Visited 19/05/25 Cask offering of Hophead, L Pride and Doom Bar. Keg offering of Peroni, Stella, Mahou, Aspall, San Miguel and their own branded lager, Carling, Coors, Camden Hells and Eazy IPA, Guinness, Madri. This is an ex-JDW venue, and it totally feels still like a JDW venue apart from the beer range. There is a small seating area out the front on the busy road that is Green Lanes. There is a left and right half of the venue. The right half houses the bar counter along the right-hand wall with a boarded skirt and stools along the length thereof. This side is carpeted otherwise and has its fair share of pillars and regular tables and chairs. There are some fabric banquettes along the rear wall and to the left side is a large TV screen and to the right side is a pool table. The left-hand side of the venue is bare boarded and has a mass of regular tables and chairs including some booth style tables. Thought the venue was OK and a good example of an existence post JDW.

A 2006 opener, this is a mildly confusing suburban Spoons. It might well be three properties whacked into one as there's three ‘tube’ rooms going into the bowels of the building, as it were. My notes stop abruptly for some reason, Untappd says of my pint of Vale Black Beauty was “In good nick here; lovely interplay of molasses, roast coffee and a bit of sweetness.” So let’s call that an NBSS 4. Overall, not bad at all for a Spoons. However, everything written here is moot as Timbo wielded the axe a couple of weeks after I was in and it’s now closed.
