We went for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. We waited over an hour for meals for four people which were paid for on arrival. When they arrived they were stone cold. The Manager refused to attend us at the table for complaint. We were told to find the Manager. When we located him, he refused to speak to us directly. He angrily shouted at the staff to refund us without direct eye contact to ourselves. He was aggressive and rude. At the time we left the pub, other restaurants had stopped serving lunches, so we were left tired and hungry to wander around York looking for somewhere to eat. The couple at the next table were served a pie which had not been defrosted properly and still had ice on it. They returned the food for further cooking and it came back cold. They demanded a refund and left. The lady of that party was a Chef. We will be referring this matter to the HSE, Food Standards Agency and Trading Standards. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

This is a large pub facing the river once inside the bar is on the right it has wood floors and has different levels it was very quiet in here at about 12.30 saturday dinner. There was only one real ale on the bar and this was John Smiths Magnet which was ok but nothing special.

Big, victorian, brown brick pub on the riverside near the oft flooded Kings Arms. The interior is finished in a modern victorian style, stained glass in the doors, geometric tiled floors, and lots of wood panelling. There are some nice original touches in the coving and the backbar with its cornithian columns, and also some interesting framed old letters and receipts. The large single room is divided up into a number of smaller spaces giving quite a cosy feel. Usual range of UK keg beers and ciders; Fosters, Strongbow, 1664, Carling, Stella, and John Smiths smooth. The single handpump had a reversed clip for Smiths Magnet so I had a Guinness instead. The young female staff were ok but not exactly run off their feet when I visited. There are CCTV cameras covering all the nooks and crannies and the Gents is furnished with vandal proof stainless steel fittings, which may indicate its late night atmosphere.
