Longs, Swindon

Visited 30/09/25 No cask. Keg offering of Guinness, Thatchers Haze, Coors, Madri, the three flavoured Thatchers ciders, Staro, Peroni, Carling and a few from Arkells, the Voyager APA, the Legacy lager and the Malt House lager. Longs occupy a quite pleasant spot and is essentially a reasonably long rectangle with a small outside seating area at the front with a few tables. There is a small white uPVC conservatory bolted onto the side of the front with a tiled floor and a pale pink fabric flower wall above a pale pink banquette, which makes the place feel cocktail bar like but the main seating and bar area is very pub. Seating in the main part regular and tall tables all with copper tops and served by regular chairs, fabric banquette along part of the right-hand wall, or tall backed stools. Boarded floor with bar counter along the left-hand wall mid venue. There is some tall stool seating at the ends of the bar counter. Plenty of TV tuned into Sky Sports without sound that provided by a reggae soundtrack on my visit. There is a covered seating area out the back and off the back is an area described as their cocktail bar called the Midnight Social that was closed in my visit, but where the contents of the uPVC conservatory would probably have been better placed. Still reasonable venue and knowledgeable and chatty chap behind the bar which gave the venue some ambiance on a quiet time for a visit (although I had been here prerecording pub visits but didn’t remember it other than the small seating area at the front on the hill).

Upmarket youngsters cocktail bar with table service. To be fair the L shaped interior is quite nicely done with exposed brick, wood block flooring, dark green metro tiling, interwar prints collaged on the lower servery and neon signage. Multiple TVs mutely pumping out the golf to an audience of nobody. No cask of course; I went for Voyager which clocked in at under a fiver, which surprised me (it's actually brewed by Arkells so I guess they must still own the place?). An unusual operation for them if so. It’s not my bag by any means but it’s fair enough for what it is, there’s much worse both in Swindon and in the genre.
