Traditional externally but the Old Peculiar has clearly had a relatively recent refurb inside with wood floors, bare brick walls and mixed solid wood furniture throughout. There's also a bookcase with a varied selection of books which is a nice touch except for the one on Sting. It makes for a comfortable spot for a pint or something to eat from either the more extensive full menu, excellent value £5 lunch menu or specials board. My £5 lunch was simple but substantial enough and well cooked. Four handpumps with Old Peculiar, Theakstons Black Bull Bitter and Pedigree available as regulars and an excellent pint of Shugborough Jasper as a guest. Well worth a visit and I'd drop in again.

This pub was my local for 6 years up until last month and I have to admit I will not miss it. The beer is good and priced fairly. The food is average and disappointingly not home-made. I fully agree with Ivan Dale about the opening times. There have been many occasions where we have had to go for a drink in the The Crown Inn just down the road because The Old Peculiar was shut.

Not good service! Made to wait 40 minutes for our starters. All but one member of staff were too busy lounging about chatting. Food not great..kept running out of dishes and didn't bother telling us til 25 minutes later. Not coming here for food again. P.S. That explains the s*** opening hours, I mean 12-2 and 6-9 on SATURDAYS. The lady that runs it should pack up NOW and let someone who is motivated into fulfilling its potential.

A nice black framed, white rendered, detached corner pub, with beer garden. Serves Theakston's beer. The interior is open plan and has a traditional look, with beams and brick, lots of memorabilia, books, ornaments old pictures etc on the walls. The music was subdued easy listening stuff, the service was very friendly and the clientele mid to mature! They did food but we did not eat on this occasion. Beer; tap stuff, with Theakston's Dark Smooth MILD (fine). Handpulls saw Pedigree, with Theakston's MILD (class) and Old Peculier (class). A sheer delight to visit and will be returning here
