The Clarence, Bury

Been in twice, beer nice but expensive, £3.25 for a session beer that's brewed on the premises. 50 yards away is a Wetherspoons at £1 cheaper for better beer. This pub is aimed at a certain clientele. Plenty of folk in & all tables occupied with people eating. Nowhere for us to sit, just had to stand holding our pints. Lighting in the place very dim, couldn't read the pump clips. nothing wrong with the place, just not my kind of pub.

A very nice building which has been modernised to within an inch of its life. Six hand pumps with two from the on-premises brewery, others from Spitting Feathers and Pennine at the time of my visit. Service was impersonal and the beer expensive (£3.50 a pint compared to a range from £2.50 to £3.10 in others I tried). Disappointing for me that all the beers were pale and grapefruity, except for one which was brown and grapefruity.

Now open and what a transformation walls been knocked down bar moved to the middle of the room very up market what Bury needed with its own brewing plant down stairs. Had a good pint of good Measure from the one chop brewing arm 3.9% its pale amber well worth a visit
