Romney Tavern, New Romney

A board on the pub's front wall advertises cask ales, but once inside there is just one hand pump, and it was devoid of pump clip at the time of our Friday afternoon, end-of-the-season visit. There was no one in the place - no customers, no staff. I don't expect I'll be back.

At first pass I thought this was a private bar for the holiday Stalag to which it's attached, but it does allow non-inmates to come in so can be considered a pub of sorts, although it doesn't open all the time - weekends mostly, especially off-season. Once you are in, you quickly realise it wasn't worth the effort. The atmosphere was awful, mainly due to the horrible clientele. That said, I can't vouch for the karaoke and music events they have on Saturday nights - maybe these are more interesting? No real ale on, and the building, a single-storey 1970s shack, has no architectural gems to admire, so unless you want a cool shandy and don't want to walk to another pub, I wouldn't bother.
