Radnor Arms, Folkestone

A small back street pub previously known as The Happy Frenchman, just off the main shopping area, it consists of a cramped L-shaped bar with a sterile feel to it. It is popular with local sports fans due to the tv screens showing matches. There is a garden to the left hand side. One end of the pub is dedicated to pub games – dartboard, pool table and gaming machines – and has a laminate floor. There is little character here, but there is free wifi, cheap food and it offers live music. The steel-lined toilets make it feel quite industrial. The only ale on was Doombar which was not well kept. It's fine to drop in and I might include in a crawl, mais ce n'est rien especial.

The Frenchman is a long L shaped pub with a seating area to the left and a bar that stretches along to the right where a pool table can be found. Some background music was playing via a jukebox during my Monday evening visit and the two plasma screens were showing muted Coronation Street and Speedway as the football season is over. Two of the four hand pumps were unused so Hobgoblin and Doom Bar were the ale options. I thought that the barman was very disinterested in serving anyone and the general vibe of the place was a bit dull. This pub is not on my revisit list when I’m next back in the area.
