The Three Horseshoes, Leighton Buzzard

The entrance hall leads to two seperate doors with a small ,square saloon to the left and ,down a step, the public bar,which is the larger space.Here there is a real fire (unlit on my trip),a small flat screen (off),a low ceiling and a floor comprised of wide floor boards.The walls were half pannelled in wood while the furniture was unremarkable yet traditional.There was sadly some tinny muzak on offer. The bar in the saloon was sporting keg products only,so go to the public bar if you want to see what real ales this cask marque approved pub has on .My visit coincided with GK IPA,CW Bombardier and St Austell Tribute,pricey at £3.55;a pedestrian choice driven I expect by a pubco tied list.On ordering the Tribute,about a third came out before spluttering from the handpump."Your unlucky, that's gone.Wont be a sec,need to change the barrel"was the barmans' retort,but having pulled a little of the new barrel though,the original third was topped up with the new supply which I consider bad practice.However the pint was drinkable. Food features large here with bar snacks and pub grub staples on offer.My club sandwich was good if again a little pricey at £4.65. Popular with the villagers and very much a traditional pub in an old building,there is also an extensive garden and a partially covered patio by the front door. The good news here is that the pub is clearly viable.Shame the ale choice was uninspired,I was left feeling that I didn't really receive value for money.
